How and where we make our swimwear
Every Boneswimmer swimsuit is born in Italy, between Gallarate and Busto Arsizio, in the heart of Lombardy’s textile district. Since 2004. Here is how, step by step.
1. The design: the Gallarate atelier
Everything starts at Via Alfredo Cappellini 18, where store and atelier share the same building. Here we draw 70 to 80 original prints every season and develop the models: Pinup, Ibiza, Maui and Milano for women, H2Otto, UCLA and Samoa for men, the girls’ and boys’ versions, matching caps and accessories. The X-cross back, born in 2004, is still the signature of the Boneswimmer training swimsuit: it frees the shoulders and keeps the suit in place in the pool.
2. The fabrics: technical, Italian, chlorine resistant
We do not buy pre-printed lycra. We buy white technical fabric and print it ourselves. For training swimsuits we use Speedline by Mi.Ti., 100% PBT polyester: it resists chlorine, keeps its shape and does not fade. Inside, the Charme lining by Piutrenove (82% polyamide, 18% elastane) gives support and softness. For the Milano line we use a fabric with 51% recycled polyester and 49% PBT, GRS and OEKO-TEX certified.
3. The print: in-house sublimation
The prints are made in the atelier by sublimation: with heat the ink moves from paper into the fibre and becomes part of the fabric, not a layer on top. That is why the colours stay vivid after months in the pool. Printing in house also means short runs, limited editions and custom swimwear for teams, events and resorts.
4. The cutting: a family workshop
Cutting is entrusted to a family workshop a few kilometres from the atelier: a direct line between orders and production, which lets us restock the sizes that are needed when they are needed.
5. The sewing: partner workshops nearby
Sewing is done by partner workshops between Gallarate and Busto Arsizio that have worked with us for years. A short decision chain: a fit detail is corrected in days, not seasons.
6. Quality control and the water test
Every item comes back to the atelier for inspection before shipping. New models are tested in the pool by people who really swim: Deda, the brand’s founder, has been swimming since the age of six, is an instructor and founded a Masters team.
Why we do it this way
A local supply chain costs more than distant production. In return we have direct control over fabrics, fit and print, a structure built to grow without losing identity, standards and control, and the freedom to make swimsuits nobody else makes. Production capacity: over 37,000 pieces a year.
Want to see them in person? Store and atelier in Gallarate and stockists across Italy. For teams, events and resorts: custom swimwear.
